Back To The Beginning
One of my favorite movies is The Princess Bride. During the story, Inigo Montoya has all but given up on his lifelong quest when he is ordered to move from one location to another. Montoya refuses, however, and states aloud to his missing leader, “I am waiting for you, Vizzini. You told me to go back to the beginning. So I have. This is where I am, and this is where I’ll stay. I will not be moved.”
When life becomes too hard or things around us become too confused, wisdom tells us to regroup and focus on what really matters. When we feel lost, alone, helpless, or hopeless, we need to find the truth, and to do this we need to go back to the beginning. For Christians, this means rediscovering the essence of our faith. It means reclaiming the one thought, idea, or teaching which puts everything else in perspective.
In my humble opinion as an evangelist, that one focal point is John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16, NKJV)
This message, spoken from the lips of Jesus, begins with God the Father, but it is about so much more.
It is about the gift of the Son – to you.
It is about unfailing love – for you.
It is about eternal life – with you.
During the darkest times of your life, John 3:16 can be your hope and your strength. It can bring you joy and peace.
Do not let this fallen world, nor Satan himself, come between you and your faith in God. Do not let it come between you and your Lord.
The Father who loves you.
The Son who died for you.
The Holy Spirit who dwells in you.
