Every Knee Shall Bow
Who is Jesus? Two thousand years after His life, death, and resurrection, much of the world still does not know Him. His titles are many – Savior, Son of God, Son of Man, Christ, Messiah, Redeemer – but even today His question to His disciples, and to us, is timely: “Who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16:13-15, NLT)
Paul the Apostle, writing to the Christian community at Philippi about 60 A.D., explained not only who Jesus is but also what Jesus did while He was among us on this earth:
“Though he was God,
[Jesus] did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.”
Philippians 2:6-11, NLT
Today, as you continue your journey of life as well as your journey of faith, remember that Jesus came into the world to save the world (John 3:16-17) – and to save you. He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). He is with you always, until the end of time (Matthew 28:20b).
And when Jesus returns in His glory, all people – regardless of who they are or what they have believed – will know He is the Son of God. At that moment, every knee shall bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue shall declare, to the glory of God the Father, that Jesus is Lord!
