What a difference three days can make.
In the span of less than seventy-two hours, Jesus had been arrested, falsely accused, and sentenced to death.
He had been mocked, scourged, and crucified.
His mother and a few others who were brave enough to face the Roman soldiers and Jewish leaders on Golgotha watched Him die.
Jesus was then taken down from the cross and buried in a borrowed tomb.
Today, we know the rest of the story. We know what happened next, and we have based our faith, and our lives, on it.
Christ is risen!
If Jesus had not been raised from the dead, our faith would be futile, and we would still be in our sins (1 Corinthians 15:17). And adding to the bleakness of such an existence, there would be no reason – no reason at all – for hope.
Life and death would be pointless.
Labor and toil would be for naught.
Tragedy and tears would mean nothing.
Fortunately (praise God!), that is not our reality. The Resurrection did happen, and Jesus is alive.
Because He lives, everything we do, and everything we endure, has meaning.
Because He lives, death has been conquered.
Because He lives, sin has been defeated.
Today, my dear friend, and every day for the rest of our lives, let us rejoice in our Risen Savior. Let us face each day and each tomorrow knowing that God is in control and that the Son of God is with us every step of the way. Let us have joy that is without limits (Philippians 4:4) and peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Because He lives!
